Congratulations to Daniel Song, who successfully defended his dissertation! Daniel was the 1st PhD student to join our lab and his work has laid the foundation in several key areas of our research. Daniel’s dissertation was primarily focused on understanding airway dysfunction in asthma where he developed mucin biomaterials as well as genetically engineered models of the airway epithelium to study disease mechanisms. Daniel’s work in our lab has lead to publication of 6 journal articles with others currently in revision / review. He was awarded the Goldhaber Travel Award, International Travel Award, Summer Research Fellowship, and Ann Wylie Fellowship from the Graduate School. He was also recently recognized at the 2022 Society For Biomaterials annual meeting with a STAR award.
